MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. The position is onsite.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide Tier III IT Systems support for customer Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) server environments

  • Install, configure, maintain, and optimize Linux and RHEL Server environments to ensure reliable and secure infrastructure

  • Diagnose and resolve the performance, security, and/or technical challenges related to the platforms listed above

  • Monitor performance, capacity, and backups; perform test restores and implement system updates, patches, and improvements

  • Investigating and resolving operational problems in conjunction with other engineering and technical personnel

  • Lead the development and documentation of system processes and train team members to ensure operational consistency and knowledge transfer

  • Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to accomplish repeatable tasks

  • Working on project teams responsible for engineering and packaging releases to integrate within the customer’s production IT environment

  • Contribute to strategic planning, solve complex technical problems, and lead Linux and RHEL engineering projects or functional teams when required

  • Participating in processes throughout all phases of the ITIL Service Lifecycle, including submitting Change Requests

  • Performing requirements analysis, requirements gathering, and integration for all platforms listed above

  • Willingness to occasionally work after normal duty hours (nights and weekends) to support system maintenance or service outages

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant Linux or RHEL experience, an Associates degree with 8+ years of experience, or a High School Diploma with an 11+ years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree

  • Hands-on experience or knowledge with configuration and implementation at command-line interface, of Linux or RHEL Server technologies within an on-premise infrastructure

  • Experience with Active Directory, Domain Name System (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

  • Experience performing Linux and RHEL server upgrades, migrations, and deployments

  • IAT Level III/DoD 8140 Advanced certification, e.g., SecurityX or CASP+ within 6 months of hire

  • DoD 8570 Computing Environment certification within 6 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl to automate system tasks

  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible to maintain system baselines

  • ITIL v.3 Foundations or later certification highly desired

  • Experience using a Service Desk ticketing system, such as TrackIT or ServiceNow

  • Previous customer service experience strongly desired

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have a current and active Top Secret clearance, and be willing and able to obtain a CI polygraph

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations


The projected compensation range for this position is $98,000.00-$163,100.00.
