MANTECH seeks a Robotics Unmanned Systems Subject Matter Expert to join our team in Spring Lake, NC.  In this role, you may be required to travel up to 25% or 1 week each month.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs as a Subject matter expert for the Robotics and Unmanned Systems Integration effort which trains and educates military soldiers and select Inter-Agency personnel in the skills and competencies necessary to Operate and mitigate unmanned robotic platforms IAW FAA guidelines.
  • Design, develop, prototype, build, operate, and sustain unmanned systems (UxS) from initial inception through additive manufacturing (3D printing/rapid fabrication) to full operational completion.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify and recommend solutions to improve training and education; organize collaborative activities and promote other linkages between the Government, academia, and industry; and provide independent technical recommendations and advice to meet Army educational objectives. Conduct multi-discipline research and analysis to recommend training solutions and training scenarios for special warfare and irregular warfare.  Focus areas shall include robotics and sUAS. 
  • Conduct non-routine training and educational instruction on course curriculum; emerging TTPs; and STI developed during C4ISR research and analysis. Typical instruction would be conducted in a small setting, typically with no more than twenty students, and in short duration to discuss emerging research and TTPs.
  • Assess training and exercise events through observation and develop recommendations for sustained future operations. Arrange and facilitate After-Action Review (AAR) and lessons learned meetings to review events and associated deliverables.
  • Serves as a Mobile Training Team (MTT) instructor and subject matter expert, traveling up to 25% CONUS and OCONUS to deliver platform instruction, practical training, and field-level maintenance on proprietary equipment in potentially austere, low-resource, or remote operational environments while ensuring curriculum readiness and technical system sustainment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience within the special operations or interagency communities with specific responsibilities within one or more of these primary areas:
    • Operation or Strategic-level Mission Planning
    • Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR)
    • Analysis and Targeting
    • Cyber-enabled operations
    • Operational or Strategic Planning and Policy
    • Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning
    • sUAS
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.  Bachelor’s Degree can be substituted for an additional five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a current or former RUSIC or Brighton instructor.
  • Must possess demonstrated, proficient experience in First Person View (FPV) drone piloting, including manual/acro flight modes and real-time video feed navigation.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 25% to locations both inside the US and outside.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must hold a current/active Secret Security Clearance 

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which involves delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be capable of negotiating difficult or rugged terrain on foot for up to 3 miles while carrying gear, tools, or equipment weighing between 50 and 75 pounds in potentially austere operational conditions.
  • The person in this position will need to be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
