MANTECH is seeking a talented and motivated Cultural Resources Specialist to join our team in supporting the preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and related cultural resource management consultation requirements. This is a remote position; however, candidates local to Honolulu, HI, or Solana Beach, CA are strongly preferred to support onsite.

Work on impactful projects for the Department of Defense (DoD), serving as a technical analyst for cultural resource-related projects, contributing to environmental compliance efforts and supporting senior staff in managing Section 106 requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in writing cultural resource sections of NEPA documents and support the development of environmental impact analyses to ensure NEPA compliance

  • Assist in managing Section 106 compliance requirements and the development of Memoranda of Agreement and/or Programmatic Agreements

  • Coordinate with archaeological subcontractors for field projects, assisting in the oversight of survey plan development, data collection, field inventory, monitoring, and site mitigation

  • Provide technical expertise to internal teams to ensure all work adheres to federal, state, and DoD standards

  • Support project management tasks including scheduling, budgeting, and ensuring the timely delivery of reports under tight deadlines

  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork and site visits in various environments to perform cultural resource assessments

  • Travel within the Contiguous United States (CONUS) and Outside the Contiguous United States (OCONUS) for site visits and client meetings up to 20%-25%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field (required to meet SOI (Secretary of Interior) Standards).

  • 5+ years of professional experience in cultural resource management

  • Demonstrated experience in archaeological fieldwork and monitoring

  • Demonstrated experience in data collection and technical report writing for specialized archaeological deliverables, such as technical memorandums, monitoring reports, and treatment/discovery plans

  • Demonstrated experience in Section 106 consultation with SHPO, Native Hawaiian Organizations, and/or Tribes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience writing NEPA cultural resource sections

  • Experience with GIS data collection software

  • Experience with environmental compliance and permitting specifically for Department of Defense (DoD) projects

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, and effective problem-solving abilities under tight deadlines

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations

  • Ability to conduct site visits and fieldwork in various environments related to cultural resource assessments is also required


The projected compensation range for this position is $83,300.00-$139,800.00.
