MANTECH seeks a motivated, career customer-oriented Barge Material Support Technician to join our team in Norfolk, VA This is an Onsite position.
This role supports Navy Surface Ship Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul programs by providing comprehensive oversight of Messing and Berthing Barge Condition Monitoring, Assessment, and Sustainment efforts. You will leverage your afloat maintenance expertise and collaborative skills to ensure barges are inspection-ready, properly maintained, and fully aligned with Navy maintenance processes and standards.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conducting monthly barge walkthroughs at various maintenance availability locations to assess material condition and identify discrepancies
Performing turnover inspections and executing Material Condition Assessment Processes (MCAP) for both large and small barges
Supporting the development, management, monitoring, and reporting of barge maintenance and modernization efforts
Maintaining and updating the Current Ship’s Maintenance Project (CSMP) database
Auditing weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance
Assisting barge crews with locating parts and coordinating required maintenance services
Collaborating effectively with Echelon I, II, and III commands, demonstrating knowledge of Navy organizational structures and working relationships
Traveling locally within the Norfolk area to support ship repair facilities, with occasional travel outside the local area as required
Minimum Qualifications:
12+ years of recent experience in Organizational, Intermediate, and Depot-level maintenance of U.S. Navy ships or submarines; Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of general experience; Master’s Degree with eight (8) years of general experience
Demonstrated experience supporting Navy maintenance programs, with prior Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV), Shipyard/Regional Maintenance Center, and/or Flag Staff experience highly desired
Comprehensive knowledge of afloat repair processes, maintenance availabilities, and Navy maintenance documentation requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience serving in afloat leadership positions
Direct experience with O-Level, I-Level, or D-Level maintenance, particularly during availabilities where berthing barges supported ship’s force
Demonstrated ability to identify material discrepancies and draft, edit, and proofread corrective action recommendations in accordance with U.S. Navy policy and procedures
Ability to follow detailed direction and adapt to evolving mission requirements
Clearance Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold an actively current Secret clearance.
Physical Requirements:
The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual.
Must be able to transit throughout a Navy ship or berthing barge and access any space or location as required to perform inspections and assessments.
